O Lord, during this holy Lent may we quell the inclinations and passions of the body, purify our hearts of hate, jealousy, pride and anger. Maronite Liturgy

​The Lenten Season of fasting in the Maronite Church begins today, February 20th, and is known as Ash Monday. Today, all over the world, the Maronite Church blesses and distributes ashes. The faithful are blessed with the ashes in the form of a cross painted on their forehead as the priest recites: “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

To receive the ashes is both a public display and a personal testimony of grieving your sins, and that, with a humble and repentant heart, you trust in the Grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ to be changed and transformed from within.

Saturday of the Light is the last day of Lent.  A beautiful ceremony is to be celebrated during that day: “the Prayer of Forgiveness”. It is an old prayer of the Maronite Church that celebrate the forgiveness won by the death of Jesus Christ.

O Lord, Grant that we may enjoy the fruits of your sacrifice and bury the old man that the new man may live.
