Chorbishop Seely Beggiani was born in Youngtown, Ohio, in 1935. He completed his undergraduate studies at John Carroll University and Borromeo Seminary in Cleveland, Ohio. His graduate studies were pursued at the Université de S. Joseph in Beirut, Lebanon, and the Catholic University of America, where he received his doctorate in theology in 1963. He was ordained to the Catholic priesthood for the Maronite Church in 1961, and he taught undergraduate theology and sacred scripture at St. Johns college in Cleveland and John Carroll University from 1962-1967. Since 1967 Chorbishop Beggiani has been Rector of Our Lady of Lebanon Seminary in Washington D.C., and Adjunct Associate Professor of Religion and Religious Education at Catholic University of America. He was honored with the rank of Monsignor by Pope Paul VI in 1975 and ordained Chorbishop by Archbishop Francis Zayek in 1986. President Gemayel of Lebanon awarded him the National Order of the Cedar in 1988. The author has written a number of books and articles on theology. His most recent work is Early Syriac Theology.
