Love is not attachment, because love is freedom and attachment is bondage.
God is freedom. Love is not a human emotion; love is a divine power of creation and a heavenly power of resurrection. Love is not an instinct stemming from the physical senses; it is a power of life flowing from the spirit. Love is not a dead habit that binds and attaches us, it is a power of perpetual renewal. It renews us and sets us free. Love is not a feeling directed in a specific direction; love is a light that shines in all directions.
God is not a feeling. God is not a sentiment. God is not a habit and God is not affection. God is not an idea. God is truth, God is life, God is the creator and giver of life. Love does not ask for a price or compensation for giving itself. Love always goes to the end.
Love that springs from a human being has a purpose of returning to the one from which it stems. When a man loves from his own power, this love serves only himself, no matter the type of his love or its strength. Love that originates from God, and is given to man by God, has the other as objective.
If your love is from God, then it will serve your brother. If your love is from you then it serves only you. The man whose love comes from himself, loves only himself in others, and thinks he loves them. Never confuse love and desire, love and sentiment, love and habit or love and attachment.
