Healing Testimony for Alvaro Enrique Sigrida Castro
Mr. Alvaro Enrique Sigrida Castro, born in Costa Rica in 1954, is married to Mrs. Marinella Miranda Quesada. They reside in the Diocese of “The Most Precious Blood of Christ,” where he serves in church ministry. His wife recounts his medical condition, supported by the attached medical reports:
“Due to severe kidney pain and a urinary tract infection, my husband was transported by ambulance to Rafael Ángel Calderón Guardia Hospital on December 13, 2023. After the necessary tests, his condition was diagnosed as follows:
First, acute kidney dysfunction of unknown cause;
Second, a severe urinary tract infection accompanied by stones in the urinary tract.
Because of his critical state, he was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit after going into septic shock. His urinary system had suffered extensive damage due to bacteria caused by an obstruction in the urinary passages from residual kidney stones, which led to kidney failure.
On December 14, the on-duty physician contacted our family, informing us of my husband’s critical condition and advising that the family remain by his side. Father Oscar Vargas, the parish priest, came and administered the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.
My husband remained unconscious for three days. During that time, our family began praying to Saint Sharbel and anointed him several times with Saint Sharbel’s oil, given to us by Father Youssef Nakhleh, the Lebanese Maronite monk responsible for mission and pastoral service in the parish. Even our two daughters told Father Youssef: ‘If Saint Sharbel heals our father, we will marry in the Church,’ and they began Christian formation to fulfill their vow.
On December 19, the doctors began removing the tubes from his body and decided to perform a tracheostomy. But after anointing his neck with Saint Sharbel’s oil, his breathing returned, and he was healed of his illnesses.
My husband remained in intensive care until he was discharged from the hospital on December 26 and returned home through the intercession of Saint Sharbel. We delayed reporting the miracle because we needed time to translate the medical reports.
On April 23, 2024, the miracle was officially registered in the Book of Miracles at the Monastery of Saint Maron in Annaya. Thank you, Saint Sharbel of Lebanon, for your intercession before the Lord Jesus Christ.”
